Hello and welcome back to Episode 6 of Simon Says! This week we’re talking about coffee routines, including our resident Q Grader Simon’s own coffee habits.
What type of coffee do you wake up with in the morning? A light or dark roast? Do you buy your coffee from a café or brew it at home? All coffee drinkers have their own special ritual for that first cup of the day!
With the multitude of roasts, beans, flavours and types of coffee available it’s no surprise that Simon says certain coffees might be a better bet for certain times of the day. Are you the type of person who likes a lighter coffee in the mornings? Simon says that filter coffee typically offers a nice, light and vibrant cup - perfect for that first sip of the day.
Love an after-dinner coffee? you’re probably looking for something to cut through your dinner! In this case Simon says to go for something like an espresso coffee which will be a darker roast and a stronger flavour.
At the end of the day, as with flavour preferences from Episode 5, there is no right or wrong answer for what coffee you should be drinking! Experimenting with different flavours and types of coffee is not only fun, but it might help you nail down your coffee routine.

Simon’s morning ritual is a Double Ristretto using Merlo’s Espresso Blend, followed up in the afternoon by a Piccolo. In the morning he enjoys the sweetness that the milk offers, but by the afternoon says he is looking for something not so heavy which makes the Piccolo a great choice.
