More than 20 years ago Dean Merlo began roasting coffee at this location – the first Merlo Coffee Torrefazione ‘roasting house’ on James Street in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.
This roaster and café has since become the spiritual home of Merlo and has been fully renovated with a brand new open-plan cafe next to the store’s original artisanal roaster.
Take time out of the hustle and bustle of James Street to enjoy a fresh espresso and a delicious pastry, a freshly made muffin or a biscuit. Our friendly and energetic team will always make you feel welcome.

Our Torrefazione (which is Italian for roasting house) is where we roast our much loved coffee beans, so while you’re here make sure you take a moment to witness the coffee roasting process from start to finish.
