Brisbane’s first coffee concierge blends beans with five-star service

Customers will be able to drive in and place their orders with the personal coffee concierge who will be serving motorists from 6-11am weekdays in the driveway of Merlo Coffee’s James Street store in Fortitude Valley.

Apart from the convenience of not having to find a parking space or leave your car, the concierge will also recommend the perfect brew to get your day underway.

Merlo Coffee founder Dean Merlo believed the service to be the first of its kind in Australia and said the new service had been created for time-poor caffeine fans craving an early morning fix.

“It reminds me of those great days of full service petrol stations,” he said.

“The coffee concierge approaches the vehicle, takes your order and then hand-delivers it through your car window.

“Everyone knows it is hard to beat a fresh hot coffee on the way to work in the morning but it tastes even better when you don’t have to battle for a car park or stand in line to get it.”

The concierge should make it even easier for caffeine lovers to get their hands on their favourite drink, with 36 per cent of coffee lovers reporting they couldn’t go a day without a cup.

A Merlo Coffee survey of 500 coffee drinkers found more than 90 per cent of respondents would prefer to give up wine or sex for a day rather than their caffeine fix. More than 85 per cent would give up TV for a day instead of miss their cup of coffee.

Mr Merlo said customers could also order their weekly bag of coffee beans from the concierge, or receive recommendations on the best blend to suit their taste.

“We are still offering our customers personal service and advice, but in an even more convenient way,” he said.

Orders for more than 4000 take away coffees and 300 kilograms of beans are filled each week at the Merlo store in Fortitude Valley.

“Our team of servers and baristas are well qualified and only too happy to provide advice, information and recommendations about our different blends,” Mr Merlo said.

“This is a great way for them to provide a convenient service to time-poor people while remaining connected to our customers.”
